understanding the music business
the music industry is changing. some oppose, some ignore, and some adapt. fortune small business has this article about how a band, The String Cheese Incident, is part of that last group.
another band who is take a more MODERN approach to doing business, is Einsturzende Neubauten. They sell CDs of concerts YOU see (immediately after the show), and also sell the leftovers online. They also have special pay-for exclusive online content, etc etc, and they do this on their own, whenever at all possible, in order to keep out record company garbage and intermediaries that otherwise get in the way.

your new favorite source for news & info on solar and night sky phenomena like aurora. lotsa great amateur photos. also check out the "spaceweather phone", a service you can buy that will notify you by phone when there's some cool shit to see in the sky.
particularly, there was an aurora watch due to a nov 9th geomagnetic storm, which had people as far south as alabama and arizona seeing aurora! monday night i SWEAR i saw something weird in the sky, like shafts of light thru clouds, onlu no source of light, and, actually, no clouds either. spaceweather.com convinced me it was aurora.

since i have a huge backlog of older photos that are not in the new photo archive, it is not top on my list of priorities, but it is still important and will still, eventually, be done.

try this:
instead of http://vomithaus.org/photos/?gallery=1 for Bersi pictures, try http://vomithaus.org/photos/bersi
it's a new idea for "shortcut" links not intended to be permanent links. notice how the URL is rewritten when you try visiting it. i have been using this method to correct bad URLs and thought it might have other uses too. personally, i think most people are used to having query strings in URLs (the "?gallery=1" part), but some argue about URL "prettiness". still toying with this idea, shoot off some suggestions if you have them.

the bersi "berserker" movie
this movie is by no means new -- i must have "finished" it like 1 or 2 yrs ago. the video clips used are also old, when Bersi was younger. it's still a great little movie.
for now, there is a WMV version and a MOV version, both are approx 9MB, however the WMV version is 320x240 and the MOV version has less resolution, something like 160x120 or something. I recommend you watch the WMV if you can.

cdb retreat @ msu biostation
i got a couple pictures here from the cdb retreat, but most of them are of waterfowl at the bird sanctuary.
note: many of the bird pics (and also the sailboat pic) were taken using my new 8x telephoto lens (which you can look at here).
